Baby bottle tooth decay and early childhood caries are dangerous dental issues that can easily destroy your child’s smile if you let them. However, there are things you can do to prevent those problems, which are:
Begin an oral hygiene routine early
You can start caring for your child’s smile before their teeth even grow into place. You can do so by gently cleaning your child’s gums with a clean gauze pad or washcloth on a regular basis. This will help remove the plaque in the mouth that is waiting to attack the teeth.
Care for the teeth
When the teeth grow in, it’s extremely important to clean them every morning and every night. You can clean the chompers by brushing them with a child-sized, soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. As you brush, make sure to only use a pea-sized dab of toothpaste and you are gentle as you brush near the gums.
Be careful with bottle feedings
Whether you believe it or not, filling your child’s bottle with sugary drinks can make your child vulnerable to baby bottle tooth decay. To prevent this dental issue, only fill your child’s bottle with milk, baby formula, and breast milk and please do not send your child to bed with their bottle.
These three tips are extremely important if you want your child to grow into the strong, healthy, and beautiful smile they deserve.
